What happens to the donations?
Buy Food with Plastic
Every donation goes directly to the social projects of Buy Food with Plastic. We are a Swiss organization that enables people in Nicaragua, Ghana and India to pay for hot meals with plastic bottles.
The collected plastic is used in local factories to create new products that generate income and strengthen the circular economy. At the same time, we are building the necessary infrastructure - with collection points, recycling stations and transportation routes.
In schools, we sensitize children and young people to environmental and waste issues and promote sustainable thinking that has an impact beyond the project.

1. educational community events
In Nicaragua, Ghana and India, Buy Food with Plastic organizes meetings where people come together for a food swap - 20 plastic bottles are exchanged for a hot meal. Afterwards, everyone is invited to take part in interactive workshops and creative activities where participants gain knowledge about plastic pollution and are motivated to take action. In this way, it becomes clear how ecological and social impacts go hand in hand.

2. school workshops
Our school workshops provided children and young people aged 5 to 16 with interactive environmental education at public and private schools. In collaboration with local teachers, we combined theory with practice to make topics such as recycling and the circular economy understandable and tangible. Information materials supported learning in the classroom and beyond. In this way, we strengthen the environmental awareness of the next generation in the long term

3. development of a recycling infrastructure
In many regions where we work, there is no functioning waste system. Plastic is often incinerated or ends up in nature. That is why we are building our own recycling infrastructure. We set up collection points in villages, public places and schools. Our pick-up trucks empty these regularly and buy additional plastic from people living in extreme poverty - an important source of income for many. Restaurants and hotels pay for our pick-up service and thus help to finance it. We process the collected plastic in our local factories into new products that we sell locally and internationally. In this way, we reduce plastic pollution and create a stable model that creates jobs and enables a circular economy.

4. job creation
We create fair and secure jobs with prospects. In Nicaragua, Ghana and India, we not only promote employment, but also personal and professional development. Part-time as well as full-time - Every team member is an important part of the whole and is integrated and respected accordingly. Anyone who works more than 50% is covered by social insurance - an important step forward in regions with widespread informal employment. This gives employees and their families access to healthcare and more. Our goal is long-term stability.
